Last time, I shared with you some simple yet practical CAD commands beginning with C. This time, I will show you 5 that begin with D. Let’s dive right in!
With this new feature of ZWCAD 2020, extracting the data in your drawings into a table becomes so easy! You can now create data extraction tables in the current drawing or as an external file.
- Input [DATAEXTRACTION] and press Enter.
- Choose the “Create a new data extraction” option in the pop-up Data Extraction dialogue box and click “Next”.
- Select the objects to extract data from and press Enter.
- Confirm the object name and filter and click “Next”.
- Select the properties (color, layer, line weight, etc.) you want to extract.
- Filter the information of the to-be-output objects, decide the table title and click “Next”.
- Preview and confirm the data of the table.
- Choose whether to insert or export the data extraction table and click “Finish”.
In the GIF below, you can see both the results of inserting the table in the current drawing and exporting it to a .xls file.
You can use this command to evenly divide an entity (arc, circle, ellipse, line, polyline or spline) into several segments with points or blocks as tags. It is super helpful with drawing equally spaced things like trees along a street.
Steps to divide an entity with blocks (See how to create them here!):
- Input [DIV] and press Enter.
- Select the entity to be divided.
- Input “B” and press Enter.
- Enter the name of a previously created block you want to insert.
- Enter “Y” or “N” to align or not align the blocks with the divided entity.
- Input the number of segments.
To divide an entity with points, just follow the above step 1, 2 and 6.
Seems like nothing’s changed using points? Don’t worry! As you can see from the GIF below, when I delete the entity, they will show. It’s just that they are too small to be seen. Continue reading to see how to magnify them with DDPTYPE!
DDPTYPE can help you define the size and style of the dividing points, hence make them clearer.
- Input [DDPTYPE] and press Enter.
- Select a point style in the pop-up Point Style dialog box.
- Continue to specify the point size either relative to the screen or in absolute units and click OK.
Now, with the obvious dividing points, you can place objects in the right places.
You can create ordinate dimensions for any point using this one. With these dimensions, you can easily tell the absolute coordinate of a specific point. In an elevation, for example, the height of a building can be made obvious with this.
- Input [DOR] and press Enter.
- Select a point.
- Drag the leader horizontally and vertically to specify its endpoints.
Then the dimension text will show, displaying the absolute X- or Y-coordinate of the specified point in the current UCS (user customized system). See how I can achieve the same result with DIMLINEAR in the GIF below? The difference is that this command clearly saves you the time of specifying the datum.
DIMCONTINUE is here to help you quickly generate angular, linear or ordinate dimensions based on the last dimension you’ve created. It’s very helpful when you are measuring angles and distances in architectural drawings. Let’s take a linear dimension for example to see how it works.
- Input [DLI] and press Enter.
- Select the two endpoints of the linear dimension line to create a linear dimension.
- Input [DCO] and press Enter.
- Continue selecting endpoints on the next extension lines.
Then you can create several linear dimensions continuously without repeating entering DIMLINEAR.
